Marcus E. Sharpe, Psy.D. currently holds full or part-time faculty appointments in the Department of Psychiatry at Oregon Health & Science University, Portland State University, and Concordia University, respectively. He has previously held clinical positions with Oregon State University and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. He has provided training to new recruits for the Los Angeles County Probation Department on working with mentally disordered youthful offenders.
Dr. Sharpe specializes in working with African-American children and adult victims of sexual trauma, those within the LGBT community, as well as African-American couples looking to increase sex positive practices as a means of improving communication and intimacy in relationships. Dr. Sharpe has previously been involved in mentoring and media based projects specifically setup to address the increased presence of African-American youth in higher educational settings as well as issues associated with addictive behaviors and healthy body image.
Dr. Sharpe earned his masters and doctoral degrees in Multicultural-Community Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology (Los Angeles). His bacalaureate studies were completed in Behavioral Sciences at Concordia Collge (New York). Considering himself a life long learner, Dr. Sharpe has recently embarked on an endeavor which will earn him an additional masters degree in public health with a concentration in Health Management & Policy at Portland State University. He expects to complete all requirements for the program by June 2016.
