Dr. Murphy is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Washington, DC area. His journey in the field of psychology was born as a youth growing up in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, New York. Due to experiencing the challenges of various communities, he became interested in understanding how social forces shaped human beings on levels of race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, and disability. Much of his interest includes increasing viable understanding and clinical work with Black gay men. His doctoral clinical research project is entitled “The Role of Double Minority Stress in Human Immunodeficiency Virus Transmission among Black gay men,” which looks at the contributions of double minority stress to health outcomes. Since earning his degrees at Florida International University and Argosy University/DC he has applied his clinical work at universities, psychiatric hospitals, government agencies, and the United States Armed Forces.
